One of our favorite places to travel outside of Cape Cod, is off shore. Cruising provides an unquestionable change of scenery and an opportunity to truly get away. However, life on the water is only as grand as the ship you travel on, but bigger is not always better. At La Mer Concierge, we are long standing fans of the Sea Dream Yacht Club.

Instead of a large ocean liner, Sea Dream offers a much more intimate experience aboard one of two of their 112 passenger ships. These smaller vessels allow a near 1:1 crew to guest ratio and impeccable attention to detail in all aspects from culinary provisions to stateroom amenities. After all, the company’s motto is “it’s yachting, not cruising”. The 2017 schedule includes Caribbean itineraries through April and then Mediterranean voyages through October, sailing back south for the winter.

So, what makes Sea Dream stand out? When you are spending time in close quarters, it’s nice to have your own retreat. All Sea Dream staterooms feature marble-lined bathrooms with multi-jet shower massage and Bvlgari bath amenities; Belgian linens, down duvets, woolen blankets and a selection of pillows; plush 100 percent cotton SeaDream bathrobes and slippers; well-stocked mini-fridge, personal safe and hair dryer. Aside from these comforts of home, the most unique aspect of the staterooms is Sea Dream’s Signature Balinese Dream Beds. These outdoor respites provide elevated, outdoor lounging by day and sleeping under the stars at night with full-turndown service upon request.

Another reason we choose to be on the water, is to enjoy a break from the kitchen. Sea Dream’s exquisite culinary offerings are sure to satisfy the most discriminating of guests. All cuisine is served al fresco to take advantage of the beautiful natural backdrops provided in Sea Dream’s unique choice of port cities. A highlight of our culinary experience was the Menu Dégustation, an evening of eight courses of elegantly sized portions of the chef’s signature dishes all in one sitting. Here is a look at the menu served on our trip:

– L ‘Oeuf Poule au Caviar Surprise

– Steamed Lobster on Marinated King Crab Tartar with Orange Dressing and Herb Phyllo Crisp

– Cappuccino of White Tomato Soup with Basil Dumpling

– Pear William Sorbet with Wild Hibiscus Flower

– Pan fried Sea Bass fillet with Grilled Baby Zucchini, Wild Mushroom Risotto and Truffle-Olive Oil Jus or Chateaubriand of Beef with Gaufrette Napoleon Potato, Green Asparagus and Sauce Pays d’Auge

– Warm Morbier Cheese with Honey Flavoured Nuts

– Earl Grey Soufflé with Crème fraîche Ice Cream

On both the Caribbean and Mediterranean voyages, Sea Dream offers two additional culinary experiences that surpass many on land. In the Caribbean, guests will enjoy Sea Dream’s Signature Champagne & Caviar Splash, wading into the surf to a surfboard dressed in white linens with premium caviar, festive bubbles and all the accoutrements, all followed by a gourmet beachfront barbeque. In the Medditerranean, guests are invited to a poolside cocktail event featuring champagne, caviar, canapés and special treats from the chef. To complement the food, guests enjoy handcrafted cocktails by the Sea Dream’s bar staff.

Sea Dream voyages leave nothing left to be desired, making for what we think is an easy decision! When you are ready to set sail, let us know. La Mer Concierge is an ambassador for Sea Dream, insuring our clients receive the best rates on these one of a kind ships. You can rest easy on a Sea Dream yacht while we care for your Cape Cod home.
